NOTE: I originally entered this file anonymously in 2006 to DDRExtreme.co.uk's CheeseMix 3 (nonjudged section). Below is the original readme that was included at that time.

This song was #2 in the DAI Series. I don't think the Rapidshare link still works :)

 Introduction
 ------------

It's kind of arguable whether this song really fits Cheesemix or not, but I wanted to step it :P I think it could stand up in court that the lyrics and delivery thereof are cheesy enough to warrant inclusion (especially considering that a couple of my friends upon hearing it immediately started laughing and stated "Avril Lavigne!") Probably. Oh well, it's nonjudged in any case.

This is the most recent entry in my newly established "D-A-I Series". Look for more in the future!

Anyway, SUMMER DAYS is the last track on Do As Infinity's "NEW WORLD" album and one of two songs that I actually bother listening to on said album. It's one of their faster, rockier songs, in a sort of pseudo-punk format (emphasis on the 'pseudo' however :P) It's also the only song of theirs I have that's in English, although there could be more. I'm guessing they got a native speaker to write the lyrics, since there aren't really any errors in them and they read pretty naturally. Tomiko's pronounciation is another matter entirely, however :) Well, it's actually not too bad for the Japanese (read: not Erika Mochizuki bad) and I'm glad for that I guess.

If you want more info on DAI for whatever reason then just look at

 Steps
 -----

Made in Stepmania's editor, autosynced in Stepmania too, no BPM changes or stops, no freeze arrows either because I didn't feel like it. You know the drill (it's when you have a lot of the same arrow or same two arrows in a row, lolol).

 BEGINNER - 2 feet, 143 steps, 156 combo
Not much to say (is it just me or do all my beginner step descriptions start like this?) about this. One step every second beat (or every measure in a few places) except for a couple bits where there are about 5 in a row or so on the same arrow. It'd be a 2 anyway because of the BPM but that definitely makes it one.

    LIGHT - 5 feet, 252 steps, 265 combo
Like most (all?) of my light steps, this approximates the song with 4th arrows. It has some rather long streams as well as its fair share of step-jumps (not to mention jump-jumps) so this definitely deserves its 5.

 STANDARD - 7 feet, 318 steps, 342 combo
It looks weird to have this only rated 1 foot below heavy when it's got about a hundred less steps, but that's how it worked out and I don't think I could change the ratings any other way without them being wrong (this is an easy enough 7 but a 7 all the same). I made these steps after heavy and then realised that they were probably better so I hope someone actually plays them. If you're bothering to read this readme, I implore you to go that extra little bit and bother to play my standard steps too. Please? :) Anyway, lots of short 8th streams and patterns here plus a couple of longer runs that have easy arrow placement, as well as a healthy dose of jumps where appropriate (mostly on cymbal hits and emphasised vocals). In general the steps follow the prominent guitar sounds, or the vocals in a few places (like the verse).

    HEAVY - 8 feet, 415 steps, 463 combo
Originally I rated this a 9, but in the end I dropped it to an 8 because it's really not that much of a 9, if at all. Mondo Street on DDR Supernova kind of supported this decision considering that it's 5 bpm faster, contains longer streams, more 16ths and harder stepjumps than this and is still an 8. So yeah, it mostly consists of 8th stream, but nothing all that long really. There are a lot of "8th gallops" (really not sure what you'd call them) back and forth on the guitar as well, and a number of fairly easy step-jumps to match the cymbals. A few crossovers, but nothing particularly difficult. There is one drum part that has a few 8th jackhammers and then a 16th triplet to match it, but it only shows up twice in the song, so I don't think there's enough of it to up the rating. A hard 8, but an 8 nonetheless, I think.

 Graphics
 --------

Graphics were made by me in PSP8. Both the banner and background use photos that I took at Jan Juc when I was there during the summer (who would've thought?). I probably could have gotten better images to represent the "summer days" but I like to use my own photos if possible. The fonts used are BeachType (it fit :P) for the title, and "boomerang monkey" (I don't get it either) for the artist.

The CD title is a new one I've made for the occasion. You'll likely see more of it.

 Other Stuff
 -----------

Song edit was made by me in CoolEdit 2.1. Lyric file was also made by me, typed in from the album booklet and then split timings worked out using Stepmania's editor. It was a shame that I couldn't include the song's final chorus because it explains precisely *why* she hates summer days, but it would have made the song way too long and I'd have had to include the whole late-song bridge which is ill suited to DDR and seemingly impossible to cut down without being painfully noticeable. So instead I'll include the full lyrics below:

-----

Summer days, I can't stand the summer days.
Frozen cocktails and night fireworks,
what's so great about them anyway?
Summer day, let it be some other day.
Seaside motels and sex on the beach,
don't be thinking I went all the way.
I hate summer days.

Rushing down the traffic, to the beach, that's jammed for blocks and blocks.
They ain't getting nowhere. Still miles and miles left to go.
Strutting down the street, the girls, they try to impress their boyfriend-to-be.
I give up and don't try. Every day is a bad hair day.
Guys, they come up with lame pick-up lines. Desperate to just get laid.
Damn, give me a freaking break!

Summer days, I can't stand the summer days.
Frozen cocktails and night fireworks,
what's so great about them anyway?
Summer day, let it be some other day.
Seaside motels and sex on the beach,
don't be thinking I went all the way.
Goddamn summer days.

Kate was the one, who said that life was meant to be enjoyed.
Stop crinkling your face. Everything will turn out okay.
Serving table to table, up and down the aisle, had on a face I'd never seen.
Whatever happened to her? Who has stolen your smiles away?
Who said that summer can brighten the mood of fate?
Nothing is going to change.
Damn, give me a freaking break!

Summer days, I can't stand the summer days.
Frozen cocktails and night fireworks,
what's so great about them anyway?
Summer day, let it be some other day.
Seaside motels and sex on the beach,
don't be thinking I went all the way.
Who needs summer days.

Summer days, they have never been the same.
Once you left and were out of my sight,
leaving no trace behind.
Summer day, why oh why on a summer day?
You were gone without saying goodbye,
taking it all away.
No more summer days.

and now you can get the original experience yourself. ;)

That's pretty much it I guess. Thanks to all the usual people, hope you enjoy(ed) it, see you next time!
